OWN AN ARCHITECT’S DREAM
“Glass House” For Sale

A stunning monument to the International Style of simplicity and clarity
Inspiration
While at Cornell University Medical College in New York City in the early 60’s, I fell
in love with the inescapable drama of the Seagram’s Building, designed by Mies van
der Rohe and Phillip Johnson. With its unbroken height of bronze and glass, I
decided at that time that I would build a Glass House during my lifetime. In the Fall
of 2004 I started a two-year course of aggressive therapy for my latest malignancy.
It
was time to build my Glass House.

The therapy is over and my prognosis is amazingly good. The house is almost
finished and it is time to sell it to a qualified buyer, who has great insights and taste.
It is not a house and site for everybody. I will be moving on to a related project, to
build an adaptation of Philip Johnson’s Glass House.
The Glass House is located in Winterport, 11 miles from Bangor. Qualified buyers
may contact me for an appointment to tour the house and site.

A History
|

Ludwig Mies
van der Rohe
(1886 - 1969)
|
The Glass House is inspired by the Resor House, which was designed by
revolutionary Bauhaus architect Mies van der Rohe in 1937 to straddle a creek in
Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Although the Resor House was never built, the spirit of the original design was
brought to life in the new Glass House here in beautiful rustic Maine.
The “modernistic” Glass House, perched on a bluff over the river, offers
panoramic views, a river front deck and hot tub deck, as well as Zen gardens and a
stainless steel monolith reminiscent of 2001: A Space Odyssey’s. The house features 3000 sq.
ft. of fine living space with a super master suite, great bedrooms, a fantastic
kitchen, creative lighting, and above all, glass.
